Bill Bruford
Born: May 17th, 1948
Influences: Lou Pocock (Royal
Philharmonic)
Bill Bruford was born in Kent County, near London, England.
He started playing drums at age 13 and joined the rock band Yes
as a charter member in 1969. Bruford became known for
syncopated, polyrhythmic beats played on an un-muffled drum set.
Over the years, he did side projects with members of Yes and
joined Yes for a reunion tour in 1991-92. In 1972-75, he
played with King Crimson, toured with Genesis in 1976, helped
form the band UK in 1977 and started a solo career in the late
70's. Bruford would also play with King Crimson off-and-on
in the 80's and 90's. He started the band Earthworks in
1986 and continues to tour with Earthworks today, playing
acoustic jazz fusion music.
